There were bright lights everywhere, very distant and mute voices could be heard, but I didn't notice anything except the pain in my chest as I closed my eyes and just slipped away.
"Damnit! We're losing her!" The man looked over at the equipment, everything beeping like crazy, then back at the girl in front of him, the arrow protruding out from her chest.
"Get the defibrillator!" The nurse nodded and quickly walked over to the large box and brought it over as the doctor carefully removed the arrow and placed some bandages over the wound.
'Oh God, please don't let her die on me.' He brought up the pads and placed them on her chest before channelling the electricity into her heart. "Again!"  He did it twice more before the machines beeped at a normal pace, signalling that her heart was running at a normal pace again.
"Doctor, I think we have a problem." The nurse was looking at the make of the girls' clothing and then at her weapons. "I don't think she's from this time."

PostHeaderIcon When The Days Are Short And The Nights Are Long

When the days are short and the nights are long, you know that your time has finally run out…

I lay there on the sand, my life blood all around me, falling from my wounds in a great cascade of red.

No one could hear me, no one could see me as I lay there, as I closed my eyes and began to leave.

The sound of horse hoofs made me open my eyes a little to see who, or what it might be.

The man dropped from his horse and raced over to me before dropping to his knees and cradling my head in his lap as he tried to keep himself in check.

"Don't leave me…. You're all I have…"

"I'm… sorry…" I managed to crock from in between parched lips as everything began to fade once more.

The man hugged me gently, holding me close to his body as he cried silently into my hair. "I don't want to lose you… Not again…"

I looked up at his face, as it became a blur with everything else as it all faded away as well. "I… love… you…"

He sniffed and kissed my forehead gently. "I love you too."

I closed my eyes for the very last time as I took a pained breath that rattled in my chest before it ceased. My heart thumped in my chest one more time before that too stoped. I would never see the sun rise again, or the man that I loved with all of my heart's face.

And that was the year I died…

Chapter 4: Escape 1491

It had been ten months since they had captured me, and by “they” I mean the Templars.

I had been used, time and time again at their pleasure, never being able to do anything about it.

Sighing I looked out the window at the water, I’d been on this ship for ten months, maybe a little more than that.

I really had to get out of here before something happened, and I really didn’t want to even guess what that something might be.

Standing up and swaying a little, I headed over to the door, only to have some Templar bastardo walk into the room.

“Who are you and what do you want!?” I glared at him, I had been pushed far beyond my comfort zone and was ready to fight, even kill if necessary.

“Who am I? Oh, you should know me girl.” He smiled evilly as he walked towards me. “What’s your name, missy?”

I backed away from him, the look in his eyes more than enough to frighten me. “It’s Miranda…”

“Well Miranda, I’m Devron.” He smiled and grabbed my arm, pulling me close to him.

“Let go of me you bastard.” I lashed out with my free arm and slapped him across the face before kicking his tender spot, hard.

Devron, doubled over before dropping to the ground.

Taking the moment I ran at the window only to cover my face with my arms and jumped out the window, smashing the glass.

Crashing into the water and sinking under a foot before I struggled back up to the surface.

“Come back here Miranda!” I looked up at the ship to see Devron standing at the window with a group of other Templars.

“I’d rather die then come back!” I started to swim away just as an arrow whizzed by and just missed my arm.

“Then we will grant your wish!” Devron screamed, as a volley of arrows was launched.

I ducked under the water but was too slow, I felt an arrow hit my calf and another hit my bicep.

Gasping I came back up for air only to have another arrow strike, only this time in my back.

‘Damn bastards, they really meant to kill me.’ Struggling to stay afloat I began to swim away from the boat.

I looked back over my shoulder to see only to have an arrow burry itself into my shoulder.

Crying out with pain I sank beneath the water, before struggling to the surface.

“Don’t bother going after her, we’re at least ten leagues from land and another twenty from any town, she’ll die somewhere in between here and land.”

‘Ten leagues to land? And another twenty to a town? This is going to be painful…’ I kept swimming away from the boat.

Hours passed and as the sun began to set I caught my first sight of land. After ten months it was heaven to my eyes.

I grabbed what little energy I had left and swam the rest of the way to land just as the sun sank beneath the ocean.

I crawled out of the shallows up the beach past the high tide mark before collapsing onto the sand.

‘I made it, I really made it. I’m free.’  Panting softly I closed my eyes and just passed out from pain, hunger and exhaustion.

Chapter 3: A Journey 1490

The next morning I left for Castiglion Fiorentino with Ezio to pick up the new novice.

I said goodbye Damian before we left, I would miss him and he would miss me.

We rode a lot of the way in silence, stoping once for lunch before setting off again.

“Ezio? Why is Nate going to train me?”

Ezio looked over at me before he replied. “Because I think he will be a good mentor for you, and I think you will be to help him.”

“What’s wrong with him?”

Ezio shook his head. “That I do not know.”
